Simon’s Big Night Helps Cowgirls Defeat WSU, 70-60

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's basketball defeated previously unbeaten Washington State 70-60 in front of 2,410 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Monday night.
With the win, OSU improves to 6-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 5-1.
Midway through the second quarter, OSU found itself without senior Brittney Martin or sophomore Kaylee Jensen, both of whom exited the game after picking up two fouls. Junior Alana Simon picked up the slack in their absence though as she scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds in the half to keep the Cowgirls within one at 34-33 heading into the half.
Simon finished with career highs in points (16), field goals made (7) and rebounds (6).
Despite the early foul trouble, Martin ended up with her third double-double of the season as she tallied 24 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, bringing her career double-double total to 20.
Jensen continued her dominant play in the low post as she poured in 18 points and brought down 10 rebounds to record her second-consecutive double-double and third of the season.
Martin (24), Jensen (18) and Simon (16) combined to become the first Cowgirl trio to each score at least 15 points in a game this season.
In the third quarter, the Cowgirls held WSU scoreless for a four-minute stretch and the Martin-Jensen duo scored eight points apiece as OSU opened up a 10-point lead with 10 minutes left to play.?
OSU used its third quarter momentum to hold its lead in the fourth quarter and seal the double-digit victory. The Cowgirls have now won 45 consecutive non-conference home games dating back to Dec. 2010.
OSU will be back in action on Saturday as the Cowgirls host Texas-Rio Grande Valley at noon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
