Gasparino Named Padres Scouting Director
September 06, 2012 | Cowboy Baseball
Former Oklahoma State baseball star Billy Gasparino has been named the director of scouting for the San Diego Padres.
A three-year letterman for the Cowboys from 1997-99, Gasparino ranks among the top 10 on the OSU career charts in runs, hits, doubles, total bases, RBI and slugging percentage.
Following his OSU career, Gasparino was an 18th-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies in 1999. After his Minor League playing career, he worked for the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, where he served as their national cross-checker for three years. The 35-year old Gasparino has served as the Padres national cross-checker since 2010.
“(Gasparino) has the ability to lead, he's a good evaluator and he understands our expectations,” said Padres assistant general manager of player personnel Chad MacDonald. “We wanted to continue our continuity. Billy fit the bill.”
