The opening weekend of the 2013 college football season will see the addition of a third neutral-site game as Oklahoma State and Mississippi State are scheduled to clash in the inaugural Texas Kick Off Classic in Houston. The game will be played at Reliant Stadium on Aug. 31. "We are excited to work with the Texans and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment to bring a Labor Day weekend football game to the city of Houston," said Pete Derzis, Senior Vice President and General Manager of ESPN Regional Television. "A game of this caliber serves as a great complement to our postseason college football bowl game played at Reliant Stadium." ESPN is the creator of the game, working in conjunction with the Houston Texans and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment. Houston joins Dallas in hosting Labor Day weekend neutral site games. This will also be the first college football game played with Reliant Stadium’s revolutionary new video boards. Once completed, each of the two boards will measure approximately 53 feet high and 277 feet wide. The 14,529 square-foot boards will surpass both the Cowboys Stadium (160 feet wide) and the Charlotte Motor Speedway (200 feet wide) displays as the largest video boards in the world. Oklahoma State last played a neutral-site game during the regular season in 1998 when the Cowboys faced Nebraska in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. "We're excited to open the season in Houston," said Mike Holder, OSU Director of Athletics. "We have a growing number of Texans attending Oklahoma State and a large alumni base in the area. We will be playing a high-profile season opener in a great stadium. I think our fans will be eager for this matchup all summer." Oklahoma State's last regular-season meeting with a member of the Southeastern Conference came in the 2009 season opener when the ninth-ranked Cowboys knocked off No. 13 Georgia, 24-10. OSU last played in Reliant Stadium in 2002 when it defeated Southern Mississippi in the Houston Bowl. Oklahoma State and Mississippi State have split their four previous meetings with both schools winning twice on their home fields. They have not played since 1999.
