Oklahoma State Meets Missouri In Cotton Bowl

Oklahoma State and Missouri will clash in the 2014 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic at 7 p.m. CT on Jan. 3 in Arlington's AT&T Stadium, it was announced today. This is OSU's eighth straight bowl trip under head coach Mike Gundy, who has led the team to a 5-2 postseason record.

This is Oklahoma State's fourth trip to the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic.

"Playing in the Cotton Bowl is a great reward for our team," Gundy said. "We get to enjoy being around each other for a few more weeks and we get to face a quality opponent in Missouri, who we have a long history with. The Cotton Bowl is one of the best bowl games and has a rich history of great teams and great players. We look forward to adding to that with an exciting game this year."

In its three previous trips to the Cotton Bowl, OSU scored a win over TCU in 1945 and sustained a pair of losses to Mississippi in 2004 and 2010, respectively. OSU's 1945 trip was the school's first-ever bowl appearance and it produced a 34-0 victory. In 2004, Eli Manning and the Rebels got the best of Josh Fields, Rashaun Woods and the Cowboys. In 2010 - the first Cotton Bowl Classic played in AT&T Stadium - OSU's defense made a goal-line stand and forced five turnovers, but the Pokes still lost a 21-7 decision to Ole Miss.

"The Cotton Bowl is a great partner of ours and we're excited for the opportunity to play in this year's game against Missouri," OSU Athletic Director Mike Holder said. "So many of our current students, graduates and fans live in the Dallas area and this is a great opportunity to bring Oklahoma State to them."

Former Big Eight and Big 12 Conference foes, the Cowboys and Tigers know each other well. Missouri holds a 29-23 all-time series advantage, but the Pokes have won each of the last three meetings and four of the last five. This is the first neutral-site clash between the two teams. Mike Gundy is 3-1 against Missouri. Gary Pinkel is 3-3 against Oklahoma State.

"Landing two teams the quality of Missouri and Oklahoma State is extremely exciting for our game," AT&T Cotton Bowl President Rick Baker said. "The Tigers basically lived in the BCS Top 10 since the rankings were first released on October 20. The Cowboys finished just as strong. Missouri was fifth and Oklahoma State was sixth going into the final weekend of the season. That alone is evidence of the strength of these two football teams that will battle one another in our 78th Classic. We have tremendous respect for Coach Gundy and Coach Pinkel. The Cowboys helped us christen AT&T Stadium at the 2010 Classic when our game moved to Arlington. And, who can forget the incredible performance of the Tigers in 2008 when Tony Temple ran for 281 yards to erase a 54-year old rushing record. The timing is perfect to get these two teams matched up in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic."

As members of the Big 12, the Cowboys are very comfortable playing in the state of Texas. In fact, OSU has won 11 of its last 12 games played in the Lone Star State, dating back to 2010. The Cowboys were 4-0 in Texas during the 2013 regular season.

Under Gundy, Oklahoma State has more than held its own against current members of the SEC, racking up a 10-6 record against SEC opposition. The Cowboys are 9-1 in their last 10 contests against current members of the SEC, most recently picking up a 21-3 win over Mississippi State at Houston's Reliant Stadium to open this season.
